My name is Emily Anna Bridges. I’m a composer, singer, and vocal coach in Rye, NH with over 25 years of vocal teaching experience. I specialize in transformational singing and speech work.
I began my teaching career at the University of Pennsylvania while working on my doctorate in Music, steadily gaining students until I graduated with a Ph.D. in 2009. I eventually opened a private studio in Center City Philly, which blossomed into a full-time career that spilled over into an online vocal school as well.
In 2020, I relocated with my family back to my home state, on the gorgeous New Hampshire seacoast, in Rye. My studio is equipped with a Steinway grand piano, score library, and technology to teach lessons virtually as well as in person.
My students are singers and speakers from all over the country, are of various ages and professions, and come from diverse musical backgrounds.
My teaching style is holistic, health-oriented, and aware of the deep connection between the voice and personal identity. My clients are treated with complete discretion and confidentiality and are welcomed to a nurturing teaching environment.
In addition to our work in weekly lessons, I create unique, personalized vocal exercises for each student based on range and skill level. These, along with breathing, tongue, and postural exercises are done at home between lessons, so students hear and feel substantial improvement quickly.
As the voice becomes progressively clearer and stronger, students gain confidence and see improvement in many areas of their professional, personal, and artistic lives.
I work with vocalists for speech as well as singing. Singing is such a useful tool for the spoken voice because there’s no better way to get a strong, healthy tone with resonance. Professionals looking to get ahead in fields where the voice and persona benefit from projecting magnetism and authority especially benefit from this kind of specialized vocal training.
I’m well-versed in many genres of music and adept at making arrangements that fit singers’ voices. I have lots of experience helping vocalists prepare for performances, video production, studio recording, and auditions, among many other vocal and performance areas.
I’m a mom of 4 kids ages 5-10. It’s a bit of a crazy ride, but exploring music with them has been such a joy in my life. It’s been wonderful opening up my work with singers and speakers to minors ages 6-18. Youth lessons are transformative for young people, and set them up with confidence and a solid foundation in performance from an early age.
I enjoy helping new singers establish their voices, whether because they’re young, because they’d been singers and for one reason or another took significant time off, or because they’re older but have never sung. I’ve helped young singers develop a strong foundation and navigate the vocal changes that come with puberty. I’ve helped ‘tone deaf’ individuals sing on key in up to a two-octave range. I’ve helped vocalists regain whole areas of range where their voices could previously not produce a pitch. With the right training and a lot of practice, almost anything is possible.
The amazing part that keeps me taking clients year after year is the incredible transformative effect the voice has on the life of the individual. We all want to sing better, speak better, and through training, we do… but the vocal transformation that occurs with training is just one piece of the fuller growth of the human wielding that voice. Being part of this deeper growth process is an honor for me, and something I never lose my wonder for.
Please reach out and tell me about your journey and goals. I would love to help with your development!
